i.softbank.jp のメールですが、IMAP と SMTP、どちらもパスワード認証ですから平文(ないしはそれに近いもの)が流れます。DIGEST-MD5 とかのチャレンジレスポンス系の認証は、サーバ側がサポートしていない模様です。そのうえ、SSLがかかってません。

はい、携帯網だけで使うのなら問題ないですが、無線LAN、とくに公衆無線LANにつなぐ場合は、盗聴が容易に可能です。

なので、i.softbank.jp のメールアドレスは使わない方がいいかもしれません。
